Move local officials to #MakeThemPay

The impacts of the climate crisis are felt locally, in cities and towns all over the world. That means mayors and other city leaders are on the front lines of responding to the climate crisis—and are looking for ways to pay for the high costs of climate adaptation and mitigation. Big Polluters should be the ones to pay, not city residents and taxpayers—and certainly not the Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color who are on the front lines of the climate movement. The good news is that local officials like mayors have the power to Make Big Polluters Pay.

This toolkit contains all the information you need to get started organizing to move your mayor or city leaders to join the cities around the world that are already taking action to #MakeThemPay. As more and more cities do so, Big Polluters will be forced to end their abuses and pay up—so we can advance the real climate solutions we need.

Note: This toolkit is designed for U.S.-based organizers, but many of its contents may be applicable in other regions.
